Thangka in Tibetan is called a scrolled or rolled and silk-framed painting. Originating long ago having exquisite meaning with elaborate and colorful form, it has unique Tibetan characteristics of brightness, rich religious meaning and artistic style, historically regarded by its people as precious treasure. There are many types of thangkas, of which the most prevalent are painted thangkas or its printed form. Besides which, there are also thangkas made from embroidery, brocade, silk, cut-and-pasted silk material and pearl thangkas.
